Yvonne is an American writer of fiction and creative nonfiction living in Lancashire. She is the recipient of a number of writing accolades, including the Northern Writer’s Award, and her debut novel Remembered was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2019.
Set in 1910, and deals with segregation and slavery, telling the story of African American woman Spring, whose son lies dying in a hospital bed after an incident with a tramcar that looks like he is to blame. His mother opens a book and reads to him the story that she has been creating all her life. Remembered is a powerful and haunting story about understanding where you have come from, losing loved ones, and finding strength, belief and courage to survive.
