Women of the world…and worldly women!  We present readings from the poetry and prose of Rochdale Central Library’s Maskew Collection of classic literature, performed on stage at Rochdale’s wonderful 90 year-old Curtain Theatre by professional special-guest actors including Mina Anwar (Doctor Who, Happy Valley, Coronation Street, The Thin Blue Line), Krissi Bohn (Counterpart), and Hannah Ellis Ryan (Coronation Street) and Sue Devaney (Casualty, Dinnerladies, Coronation Street, Jonny Briggs). Expect a tip-toe through historical and contemporary works, looking at strong women.  And weak women.  And silly women and, let’s face it, some downright awful women. An entertaining hour, hearing from some amazing real and fictional women from across the globe, as they fight, love, shout, sulk, flirt, murder, and force their way through some of our favourite stories and verse.

Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival has commissioned writer, actor and director Joyce Branagh to curate and direct this unique Women of the World event to continue the legacy of the Maskew Bequest.
