Welcome to our festival finale event! (with local choirs conducted by Michael Betteridge)

Poet extraordinaire and presenter of BBC Radio 3’s weekly The Verb, Ian McMillan, makes a welcome return to Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival, this time appearing alongside his son, multi-award winning poet, Andrew McMillan.

Collaborating on a project for the first time, Ian and Andrew have been commissioned by the festival to write two brand new poems, set to music by Manchester-based composer, Michael Betteridge, and premiered this evening by local choirs, Cantare and The Sunday Boys.

This unique event will also feature father and son reading from their own work, plus their choice of songs based on the works of other favourite poets, performed by the choirs.

Cantare are a Rochdale-based female voice choir, originally founded in 1982.  The Sunday Boys are a newly-formed inclusive male voice choir who rehearse on Canal Street, Manchester.  Both choirs are directed by Michael Betteridge.
